In a recent interview with Heyxorje, Professor & children's advocate Dr. Warren Binford discussed the importance of faith for children detained at the border. In her interview she shared that one of the things that children miss the most is their priest & their church. They rely tremendously on faith during dark times -- waiting to reconnect with family.
Border facilities, & long term shelters for migrant children (under the supervision of ORR) lack opportunities to practice religion; moreover, they often have inadequate translation causing further isolation. Dr. Binford calls on faith leaders to advocate for these children and stand up for their religious morals. Children should not be pawns in the political system and the abuse needs to end.
